Total Chaos News April 25
Total Chaos is about more than just VFX and arch viz. This year, we’ll welcome top talent from uber game studio Ubisoft.
Based at Ubisoft’s office in Sofia, Bulgaria, Technical Art Director Yavor Yakovliev has enjoyed seven years of working on AAA titles including the Assassin’s Creed series, Skull & Bones, Beyond Good and Evil 2 and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.
Meanwhile, Sonja Christoph’s enviable career trajectory has launched her through jobs on films, TV, commercials, theme park rides, VR and videogames, and her credits include Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Dr. Strange, Tomorrowland, and Agent Carter. At the moment she works as Senior Environment Artist at Ubisoft subsidiary Massive Entertainment, the Malmö, Sweden-based studio behind Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.
I’ll tell you about my non-linear career path from working as an assistant director on set in Hollywood to a generalist at Industrial Light and Magic — and most recently Environment Artist on Tom Clancy's The Division 2. I’ll also share some of the lessons and skills I’ve learned along the way!
Sonja Christoph, Massive Entertainment
With such a wide range of experience at some of the world’s most important entertainment companies, Sonja is the perfect source of inspiration and advice.
Yavor will discuss the main challenges that Ubisoft Sofia went through during the process of building the enormous open game worlds in Assassin's Creed: Origins and its mythological DLC The Curse of the Pharaohs.
Between them, you can find out how to establish a career in the creative industries, and the tools and techniques required to create astonishing interactive environments.
Sonja will be giving the talk “Switching lanes: From movies and blockbuster VFX to triple-A games,” and Yavor’s presentation “Unleashing the full potential of procedural generation by adopting a new mindset / Creating procedurally generated game worlds in Assassin’s Creed Origins” as part of the Art track at Total Chaos.
