For everyone who wonders what it was like in the skies that day, here's your answer! This book delivers fast-paced, informative, nerve-wracking first hand accounts that let you experience the air events of 9-11 as if you were there. (The book does not focus on the hijacked flights, but rather what was happening in the skies, at military bases and at air traffic control because of the hijacked flights) You're in the cockpits of the airliners as the pilots try struggle to determine what is happening, figure out something to tell their passengers, try to protect themselves and then land at evacuating airports where they can't even get landing clearances! You're in the control tower inventing new rules on the fly to keep planes apart -- doing whatever it takes to protect the other airplanes in the sky. You're on military bases where commanders are demanding the uncrating of missiles and struggling to create an air defense where there wasn't one. (And in reading this book, you will realize that there really wasn't one!) This is one of those rare books that is truly hard to put down once you've started it - and you'll be glad you read it when you're done.

I picked this book up mainly because I'm an airline pilot and it was about time that the air side of 9-11 was told. I got much more than I bargained for . . . stayed up all night reading it. (And I already knew the ending!) The following night, my 16-yr old daughter did the same. Every American needs to read this book. They won't truly "get" what happened that day until they do.
