Description:
The Fureys were one of the most popular Irish folk music groups of the 1980’s & 90’s. The band formed in 1974 and consisted of the four Furey Brothers. They also sometimes recorded as the The Fureys with Davey Arthur with whom the band had their biggest commercial successes. The single When You Were Sweet Sixteen reached number fourteen in the British charts.
They mixed their traditional Irish musical roots with mainstream Anglo-American pop. When Finbarr Furey's seasoned voice leads the way on favourite tracks such as When You Were Sweet Sixteen there is rarely a dry eye in the house.
The Furey’s popularised many Irish songs now part of the Irish repertoire. The mix of great Irish music and melodic singing makes the Fureys an incredible Irish ballad group.
The Fureys are responsible for some of the most stirring music ever to capture the public’s imagination.
