Unavailable now for over 4 years, WALKING ON LOCUSTS was John Cale's first studio album in six years when originally released back in 1996, and ranks high amongst his most accessible and pop-inflected works to date. In addition to production credit, Cale is also featured on acoustic guitar and keyboards. Cale wrote 11 of the 12 tracks, co-writing one with David Byrne (which features Byrne on guitar), while the rest are all Cale originals. Other musicians on the album include Maureen Tucker, David Tronzo, Mark Deffenbaughm, Eric Sanko, Ben Neal and The Soldier String Quartet.
