Since the early '90s, Ricardo Villalobos has been one of the most significant figures in todays minimal techno scene. He's been building an impressive discography of 12" releases on respected dance labels like Playhouse and Perlon. He has trotted the globe to study percussion in order to apply his knowledge to his productions, which almost always sound remarkably expansive despite their simplicity.
Perlon now presents his third album release Vasco!
The first two tracks are surely some of this year's most original efforts, and all four flow together nicely into a 70-minute piece of experimental house elegance. Vasco may not have the beginning-to-end perfection that one might expect from such a revered artist, but nonetheless it is evidence of Villalobos' persisting virtuosity and peerless creativity.
