The wait is almost over with triple j's Hottest 100 Volume 16 double CD in store March 6. This highly successful compilation features a selection of the top 100 tracks as voted by the triple j listeners. This year’s Hottest 100 was the biggest poll we’ve ever held. We received 809, 765 votes with more than 101,000 triple j music fans telling us what songs from 2008 really won them over.

Kings of Leon hit the lead early and we’re too strong overall despite strong competition from The Presets and MGMT. “Sex On Fire” ended up 6,000 votes in front – a record breaking margin. The Tennessee boys had 4 songs in the poll overall, but so did the fresh faced college kids Vampire Weekend. Nick Littlemore featured in 4 songs too with his work in Pnau and Empire Of The Sun. Australian songs overall numbered 48. Hip hop had its strongest showing yet this year, with locals like Bliss N Eso, Pez, Drapht,The Herd and Muph & Plutonic all featuring heavily.

Art vs Science, Flight Of The Conchords, Ida Maria and Fleet Foxes amongst others. Lots of new faces made the chart for the first time – Ladyhawke, Bon Iver, Little Red, Black Kids, Tame Impala, Santogold, Yves Klein Blue, Unearthed winners
