Description
By 1982, Michael Jackson was riding high, having enjoyed a solo smash with Off The Wall, and continuing to record and tour with The Jacksons. That was all to change when Michael and Quincy Jones returned to the studio to record what would become the biggest-selling album of all time: Thriller. Crafting a perfect mixture of pop and r&b and assembling a top-flight crew of session musicians (including guest stars like Eddie Van Halen and Paul McCartney), Michael and Quincy set out to make a record containing nothing but hit singles. Michael also set his sights on exploiting the new medium of MTV. With over-the-top videos for "Billie Jean", "Beat It" and the masterpiece short film "Thriller", Michael became the first black artist to have a video played on the channel. Eventually selling over 26 million copies in the US and winning eight Grammys, Thriller became THE international phenomenon of the 80's.
