Coming more than three years after
the Thrills' commercially successful and critically acclaimed second album, LET'S BOTTLE BOHEMIA, TEENAGER finds the Irish quintet changing little of their California-style soft-rock sound. Reuniting with producer
Tony Hoffer, who helmed their debut album, SO MUCH FOR THE CITY, TEENAGER maintains the harmony-heavy, piano- and acoustic guitar-based sound of their earlier albums on tracks like the dreamy first single, "Nothing Changes Round Here," and the bright-eyed "This Year." In keeping with the album's title, the sort of wistfulness for lost youth that usually shows up around one's 30th birthday permeates both the title track and the epic ballad "Should've Known Better." However, the tinge of melancholy fits well with the group's musical dedication to Brian Wilson's late-1960s period.
