Description
‘Strawberry Weed’ is Swedish band Caesars’ new double album. 2CDs, 24 songs of rock’n’roll that might bring clarity and soul back to this planet. Their music has the same raw rock and r&b rage of The Who, The Kinks, and Rolling Stones. Inspired by the 60’s psychedelic underground, dub, The Beach Boys and Phil Spector, with the wit and edge of rebellious teenage power pop’n’punk, the result is the perfect soundtrack to get any party started. It all began in 1993 for Cesar Vidal (lead singer) and childhood schoolmate Joakim Åhlund (guitarist), bassist David Lindqvist and Jens Örjeheim (who was soon replaced by current drummer Nino Keller). This was the genesis of Caesars Palace, as they were originally known. Their first album, 1998's ‘Youth Is Wasted On The Young’ was co-produced in a dingy basement by Jocke’s brother Klas Ahlund. The album did well in Sweden, as did the 2000 follow up ‘Cherry Kicks’ and 2002’s ‘Love For The Streets’. ‘Love For The Streets’ brought the band relative stardom at home, selling Gold and winning a Swedish Grammy for ‘Album Of The Year’. In early 2005 the track ‘Jerk It Out’, originally from ‘Love For The Streets’, became a hit with a now famous iPod ad seen worldwide. It was also remixed for the Caesars album ‘Paper Tigers’ in 2005. After a long hiatus to work on other projects, the band reconvened in the studio in 2007 to write new material. ‘Strawberry Weed’ producer Ebbot Lundberg (the gigantic, robed singer for fellow Swedes Soundtrack Of Our Lives) ruled the studio with a combination of flattery and threats to create something otherworldly.
