Description
First Australian release from young Boston group at the Vanguard of the American folk and acoustic scene, and who look set to breakthrough in a big way with this album. Such is the regard in which guys are held by their peers, their banjo player Gregory Liszt was chosen by Bruce Springsteen to perform with Bruce Sringsteen's Seeger Sessions Band.
Like contempories Nickel Creek, the Duhks and the Greencards, Crooked Still combine traditional American folk forms with virtuosic playing and a fresh, youthful approach. Probably steeped more in traditional forms than their contemporaries (and certainly more songoriented and less prone to jamming), Crooked Still will appeal to roots music fans young and old, and will appeal to fans of both Gillian Welch (who they covered on their first album) and Alsion Krauss (who singer Aoife O'Donovan has often been compared too). Indeed it's not a stretch to say that anyone who enjoys the recent Alison Krauss/Robert Plant album will enjoy Crooked Still's music.
