Description
Since emerging on the NYC café circuit in 2001, Regina Spektor has been hailed as a truly special talent.
The comparisons to Tori Amos or Bjork or Kate Bush or Fiona Apple (or Laura Nyro or Joni Mitchell to go back a ways) are more points of reference to give us some bearing regarding Regina Spektor's eccentric and original Soviet Kitsch.
Though many of the album's most striking moments are spare, stark solo pieces, Soviet Kitsch also sees Spektor accompanied by the Brighton, England-based art-punk combo, Kill Kenada, while other tracks on Soviet Kitsch feature contributions from some of NYC's finest musicians, including guitarist Oren Bloedow (Elysian Fields, Lounge Lizards), bass legend Graham Maby (Joe Jackson, Marshall Crenshaw), and cellist Jane Scarpantoni (Lou Reed, Kristen Hersh, Luna).
The CD features 11 original tracks and the DVD features the music video for 'Us" plus 'The Survival Guide to Soviet Kitsch' (A Short Film). DVD (NTSC, all regions).
