Description
In 1965 NORMIE ROWE was one of the hottest teenage sensations Australia had ever seen, generating truly unbelievable hysteria from coast to coast. There was even one reported incident of girls carving Normie’s name into their flesh with rusty razor blades! Debuting with the #1 hit ‘It Ain’t Necessarily So’ in May, 1965 Normie – only recently a scruffy kid who got sacked by the Post Office because he dared to grow his hair long – had four more smash hits during the second half of the year. After ‘I (Who Have Nothing)’ in August came the double-sided chart topper ‘Que Sera Sera’ / ‘Shakin’ All Over’ in September and the quality cover of Chuck Jackson’s ‘Tell Him I’m Not Home’ in November.
The double A single charted for 28 weeks and sold around 80,000 copies. All those early hits – tough, taut and terrific – are include on this 30-track, 78-minute CD, an expanded edition of the 1986 Raven vinyl album of the same title, which places particular emphasis on his gritty, thumping R&B, beat-style outings with his original backing group, the highly accomplished Playboys.
