Description
First studio album from Social Distortion in eight years.
Following the untimely death of founding guitarist Dennis Danell, two solo records from front man Mike Ness, and four years of rigorous touring, Social Distortion the long overdue follow-up to 1996’s awesome White Light, White Heat, White Trash has been well worth the wait.
Social Distortion are quite simply one of the most respected bands in the world, their very name being a trademark for quality. Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll is likely the band’s greatest achievement to date. The album was recorded at Maple Studios in Santa Ana, CA with Cameron Webb co-producing with Ness.
Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll captures the power and tenacity that has sustained the band’s 20+ year career. Lyrically diverse, Ness reveals a more optimistic side on this record, including the emotional journey of love, loss and acceptance on ‘Don’t Take Me For Granted’, written for Danell. But, don’t let that fool you into thinking he’s forgotten his punk rock edge. Ness’ signature wrath can
be felt throughout, especially on tracks like ‘Reach For The Sky’ and ‘Nickels and Dimes’.
Original bassplayer John Maurer has decided to call it quits, in order to spend more time with his family, paving the way for Matt Freeman (Rancid), one of the premier bass players in punk rock, to come aboard for this record cycle. “Rancid is always going to be my priority”, Matt said. “But Tim has the Transplants and Lars has the Bastards. I like to think I have a pretty cool side band now too.”
