The Strokes exploded onto the scene in 2001 with the most talked about album of that year and ushered in a new era in rock music.

The Strokes represented a refreshing change from the usual nu-metal and pop-rock found on commercial radio. Press created a sensation with the band's image that quickly turned into a cultural movement. The Strokes created a new fashion look, and ignited a renaissance of 70's inspired alternative rock.

The Strokes brought garage rock to the mainstream, selling 2 million albums worldwide (nearly equally divided between US, UK and the rest of the world) and propelled by a major UK success story.
