Andre Rieu (who hails from The Netherlands) and his orchestra have been, for more than fifteen years, one of the great popularisers of classical music. Their shows - always sell-outs around the world - are a kind of Classical Spectacular - lights, camera, action, dancers, parades, balloons, bonbons. all the whizbangery and extravagance you can imagine. Following the continued response that follows broadcasts of his TV specials, we are embarking on a whole program of Rieu - on TV and radio. The program is launched with the title Romantic Paradise - classics from around the world, with everything from La Paloma and the "Godfather" theme music to the Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffmann and the beautiful slow movement of Beethoven's Emperor Concerto.
