Description
A timely repress of this great live album by Australia's legendary and greatest '70s punk-era band, Radio Birdman recorded in Melbourne at the tail end of their first reformation in January 1996 after an 18 year hiatus. During the pre-tour rehearsal time, there had been discussion as to whether recording live material should be considered but nothing definite was agreed upon. Melbourne's radio station Triple R approached them for an appearance on one of their live music shows and a window of opportunity opened. Although there were no specific plans for a release, the material was a quality Birdman live recording and the album Ritualism was born. The session was recorded over a six hour period at Seed Studios in South Melbourne on a day off between Melbourne shows. The production was recorded fully live and without overdubs. No efforts were made to cover up mistakes or doctor the performances. If it sounds like only a dozen people yelling at the end of the song, that's because it is! Only a small but lively audience of 25 hardcore fans were present. Only two songs from the session didn't make it onto Ritualism giving some indication of the playing prowess of the group. Includes bitchin' versions of 10 Birdman classics- New Race, Aloha Steve & Danno, What Gives? etc- plus a couple of new originals written especially for the 96' tour.
