A highly anticipated entry in the science-fiction/horror genre, RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE is the sequel to the 2002 video-game-based blockbuster film RESIDENT EVIL. Like its predecessor, the attendant soundtrack is jam-packed with extremely heavy and dark music. Slipknot, DevilDriver, and Rammstein represent the harsher, growling vocal-fueled, death metal-influenced contingent, while the Cure and HIM's sinewy doom-and-gloom reflects the movie's gothic, smoke-and-fog atmosphere. The APOCALYPSE album also includes a bit of raging emo-core from Thrice, and veteran trip-hop ensemble Massive Attack fits in nicely, closing the disc with the suitably creepy "Future Pool." That rare soundtrack that admirably collects songs completely appropriate to the picture in question, RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE works both as aural cinema and as a thoroughly engaging compilation.
