Description
James Zabiela is a 23-year old prodigy, whose rise to the top can only be called meteoric.
After winning Muzik Magazines 'Bedroom Bedlam' competition with a string of well-placed mix tapes in 2000, he went on to take out the 'Best Bedroom Bedlam DJ' at The Muzik Awards one year later & quickly made a name for himself. It wasn't long before he began playing all over the globe at some of the world’s most prestigious clubs and events, and now holds a coveted residency at Ibiza’s most popular nightclub, Space.
James' unique, post-millennial blend of bleeps, breaks and house bought him to the to the attention of Sasha, Lee Burridge and John Digweed. Swiftly snapped up by Sasha's Excession agency in 2001, James spent the next year dj’ing globally , & recording mix CD's for the Grooovetech and Hooj labels.
Embracing new technology, James has set himself apart from the pack by pushing the boundaries of modern dj'ing. James arrived at his technological cross roads in 2002 on a gig with Sasha, when he was exposed to the Pioneer CDJ1000. Driven by his usual fervor, passion and commitment, word soon spread of the revolutionary techniques being employed by this rising star, who became known for abusing the CDJ1000s like a junior Jeff Mills for the post-Technics generation. Even Pioneer took notice, signing him on a sponsorship deal .
UK DJ/producer James Zabiela has begun the revolution on his new double-disc release, ALiVE. Mixed live with three CDJ1000 MKIIs, a DJM600 mixer and an EFX500 effector unit, James is setting the standards that others will ultimately have to follow. The technologically-advanced approach to the mixing of this release is furthered by the CD's 12-page liner notes, which give a technical breakdown of every track, every loop, & every effect, that went into forming this new release.
Includes tracks from Luke Vibert, Elite Force, Deetron, BT, Jeff Bennett, Lee Combs, Future Funk Squad, Underworld & Si Begg.
Renaissance MD, Geoff Oakes says, "Just as Sasha and John founded a distinct, groundbreaking style 10 years ago, so James does now. But here the emphasis is on new technology. The landscape of djing is changing and, as 'ALIVE' demonstrates, James Zabiela is leading the way."
Whilst the live Zabiela experience is such that even a faultlessly executed double CD will only ever show part of the picture, Renaissance have captured a pretty mesmerising snapshot of a young man on the verge of great things!
