Description
Pearl Jam's June 14, 2000, concert in the Czech Republic can be cited as the turning point in the band's 2000 European tour. After three weeks of up and down shows, this concert, the 14th of the tour, is the first in which the band reached a consistently high level of performance throughout the show. Highlights include an early playing of "Alive," the mixing in of good lesser-known songs such as "Red Mosquito," "Pilate," and "Present Tense," and the first playing of the musically complicated ballad from the Binaural album, "Sleight of Hand." Although Eddie Vedder complains that the weather is "as hot as the devil's asshole," it doesn't seem to affect the band at all. The concert closes with an inspired Ten-era trio of "Once," "Black," and "Yellow Ledbetter" that really ends the show on a high. Also look for another playing of "Timeless Melody" by the La's during the encore. It would be another week until the band would reach its peak in Europe, but this concert shows that Pearl Jam was starting to "take things to the next level," as Vedder says to the crowd. This is a highly recommended purchase among the 2000 European tour official bootleg series. ~ Steven Jacobetz, AMG
