Dogs Die In Hot Cars have been likened to Madness, The Proclaimers, XTC, Talking Heads and Dexy’s Midnight Runners, not least because their debut album, ‘Please Describe Yourself’ has been produced by two men intrinsically linked to that 80s sound, Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley. The band themselves understand the comparisons but cite Penguin Café Orchestra, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, and Nirvana as more of a motivation. Wherever it comes from Dogs Die’s sound is unique in the current climate. Where their peers, The Futureheads and Franz Ferdinand, favour a quirky, art-rock flavour, Dogs Die go for a gleaming sheen that gives each of the ten tracks on their album a warmth and sense of fun that comes close to pop perfection. Lyrically they also excel, producing well observed songs that suggest fertile, intelligent minds, eager to shake off any ‘novelty’ tag.
