Description
Since the release of his last studio album, 2003’s ‘Human’, multi award-winning artist Nitin Sawhney has gigged extensively with his live band including a headline appearance at the 2004 Good Vibrations Festival in Australia; DJ’ed for some of the hottest club nights on the planet; written and performed for internationally acclaimed orchestras; and scored numerous films and tv productions across Europe, Asia, and America which attracted the attention of CAA, arguably Hollywood’s most powerful film agency, who signed Nitin to their composer roster earlier this year (alongside Missy Elliot, Alicia Keys, and Marilyn Manson).
Ultimately though, Sawhney has returned to his first love – to present his deepest thoughts and feelings in the context of his most exhilarating album to date, ‘Philtre’.
The new album is a radical departure from his previous work, signified mostly by an unprecedented use of beats - on ‘Philtre’, as on his previous albums, the songs have an intimate, emotional feel, but this time, they are driven by infectious grooves capturing the relentless energy of a dancefloor. In keeping with the music, lyrically, the album is largely upbeat and optimistic.
For vocals, Sawhney has sourced his strongest line-up to date, with Philadelphia-based Vikter Duplaix, Bollywood soundtrack star Reena Bhardwaj, Spanish collective Ojos de Brujo, Ninja Tune’s Fink and human beatbox Jason Singh joining regular collaborators Tina Grace, Jayanta Bose, Taio and the soulful Sharon Duncan, as well as striking new discovery Jacob Golden and, on ‘Rag Doll’, Sawhney’s mum.
