NAKED

Pushing the boundaries of cinema in a very un-Hollywood direction Naked is an intense character study that explores the fine line between what is desirable and what is repugnant in people. The film follows the life of Johnny (David Thewlis, Harry Potter, Divorcing Jack, The Big Lebowski), the ultimate nineties anti-hero: destructive yet disturbingly charismatic, he is a complex mixture of cold, immoral cynicism and deep passionate sympathy. On a whim he travels south to London to visit ex-girlfriend Louise (Lesley Sharp; Vera Drake; The Full Monty), maybe for the sex, maybe to profess his undying love, but his chances evaporate when he sleeps with Louise's flatmate, Sophie (Katrin Cartlidge, From Hell, Topsy Turvy). Rather than face the music, he runs, like always, to the alienated streets of the city. Here he can pontificate on his theories of life to anyone who will listen. Under Mike Leigh's direction, Thewlis's depiction of Johnny is astounding, earning him a string of international awards.
