A slightly senile widow, Maggie, and Arthur, the long-suffering son who lives with her. Vague but vicious, more arsenic than old lace, Maggie would have the beleaguered Arthur tied to her apron strings, if she could remember where she put the apron. The poignant and touchingly funny scrapes between Maggie and Arthur as she constantly stays one dotty but nimble step ahead of her 'boy': Arthur decides to move out Maggie declares she is dying; Arthur takes out his ex-wife Maggie tries to burn the house down. There's nothing this mother wouldn't do for her son!
