Description
TEETH & TONGUE, aka Melbourne musician Jess Cornelius, has created a stunning debut album with ‘Monobasic’, featuring the gorgeous and quirky first single ‘There Is A Lightness To My Bones’. After fronting Melbourne band Moscow Schoolboy, Jess left to follow a solo career as TEETH & TONGUE and recorded her beautiful solo debut. MONOBASIC was produced by Casey Rice (Tortoise, Dirty Three, Guy Blackman) and features guest performances from some of Melbourne’s most talented musicians, including Joe Talia (City City City, Ned Collette Band), Ian Wadley (Bird Blobs, Minimum Chips), and Ricky French (Actor/Model, Hand Hell). ‘Monobasic’ blends sonic guitar fuzz with grand piano, rich strings with synthesisers and handclaps, showing diverse influences from David Bowie to The Kills. Drawing vocal comparisons to both Kate Bush and Patti Smith, Jess’s chameleon voice remains a major focus. It’s is a raw & soulful debut, swaying eclectically between genres, with Jess whispering delicate sweet-nothings in the track ‘Lightness In My Bones’, then jumping to the swampy, rock ballads ‘Hello Ricardo’ & ‘But Still He Stood His Ground’. Jess is a seasoned musician, and has supported acts such as Augie March, British India, The Vasco Era, Infadels (UK), Midnight Juggernauts, Children Collide, Mountains In The Sky and Snowman and has had her work included in two feature films.
