OWEN, JUNE DUNCAN

This is a crime fiction novel set in a river town in the Australian outback. Nilanthi, the youngest of five daughters in a family where status is higher than income, chooses to take her chances with an unknown suitor, a farmer in far-away Australia. When Nilanthi goes missing, her parents in Sri Lanka ask Laura, a Sydney history teacher with memories of her own marriage to a Sri Lankan man, for help in finding their daughter. To find the young woman, Laura has to travel almost a thousand miles across the state and fifty years back into her own family's tragic past.
