Local artist Ashley Anderson has been producing music since the mid nineties. He initially recorded under the moniker of Moonrock with fellow producer illpickl. The duo released a self titled album in early ’98 and went on to contribute tracks to various artist albums - the most notable inclusions being tracks on the internationally renowned ‘Cafe Del Mar’ and ‘Dope on Plastic’, as well as an appearance on Australian Hip Hop compilation ‘The Burning Issue’.

Now moving onto solo projects Ashley Anderson has morphed into Katalyst. He works as a producer in Australia and abroad. Collaborating with a bunch of diverse musicians, Katalsyt has produced and remixed projects for artists of renown, including Machine Gun Fellatio and Portishead’s Geoff Barrow. He is driven by the need to get 'good music to the people', as DJ, producer and as a recording artist.

“Fusion” The first single from Katalyst’s debut album - it’s a funky-as-hell, inspired fusion of rock, jazz combined with chopped up break beats and hip hop scratching courtesy of DJ Leeroy Brown. “Fusion” is a remix of a track that appeared on the most recent U.K ‘Dope on Plastic’ compilation and is now on high rotation on Triple J.

‘Manipulating Agent’ will be the inaugural release for the newly formed INVADA Records (promoted by Remote Control Records and Distributed by Inertia). The label is a working collaboration between Geoff Barrow (Portishead), engineer Fraser Stuart and Katalyst.

It is a sophisticated, well-crafted album and an excellent example of truly creative sample based music. Seamlessly melded, the tracks on this album are the product of a keen ear and a love of good music; this album has a truly international flavour. It was largely written and produced by Katalyst, but added to the mix was additional production and engineering touches from Geoff Barrow and Mad Scientist. Layered deep you'll also find the live playing of guitarist, Adrian Utley (Portishead), the Rhodes keyboard of Paul Johannessen (Upshot), along side the world class scratching of DJ Leeroy Brown, tearing it up on the turntables.

A diverse album, ‘Manipulative Agent’ moves seamlessly through a mixture of laid back beats, up tempo dancefloor funk, and brooding grooves that ooze with soul and echo's of city living - reminiscent of DJ Shadow or Massive Attack's best. For proof of the diverse sounds the listener needs only to check out the skull-snapping breaks of “Showtime”, the hazy guitar driven journey of “Time Bomb”, the soulful organic sounds of “Race Against Time”, and the straight up hip hop style of “Special Delivery”, featuring MC “Gif of Gab” from Blackalicious.
