LORNA DOONE (2007):
149 minutes
Based On One of the Best Known Historical Romances in English Literature Lorna Doone, a novel written by R D Blackmore was first published in three volumes in 1869…it hasn't been out of print since.
It is the story of John Ridd, a farmer living with his mother and sisters on Exmoor and the Doones, a local family of outlaws, who murdered John's father when he was a child.
MADAME BOVARY (2007):
152 minutes
The beautiful young daughter of a farmer marries a Doctor some ten years her senior. He does not meet her romantic expectations and finding herself increasingly bored, she turns her back on convention and goes in search of sexual fulfilment, with little regard for her husband and daughter who are both devoted to her.
Based upon the novel by Gustave Flaubert.
As a young man, John meets the exquisitely beautiful Lorna, however by the time he discovers that she is a Doone it is too late - he is already in love.
Not only is Lorna related to John's sworn enemies, but she is betrothed to her cousin, Carver Doone, heir to the Doone estate. And while Carver does not love her, he is determined to make her his.
Amelia Warner (Take A Girl Like You) plays Lorna Doone. Beautiful, independent, and vulnerable, her family expect her to marry Carver, but she's given her heart to another. Will she get her man? And what is the secret of her true identity?
Aiden Gillen, the coolly seductive Stuart in Queer as Folk, gives a menacing portrayal of one of literature's most famous villains, Carver Doone.
Godfather-designate to the high-born family of outlaws, the family are desperate to get him to the altar with Lorna. But why?
In addition to a stunning cast, the high drama of this classic tale is played out by 70 stampeding shorthorn cattle, a Doone pig called Manon and 24 equine stars including Legsey, Nobby, Mark (Martin Clunes' steed) and George.
England in the 17th century was a world of bandits, lawlessness and dissension to the Catholic throne. It was utterly wild, and the romance of Lorna Doone - set against the backdrop of warring factions on Exmoor - completely encapsulates those turbulent times.
