Description
Lonely Planet Six Degrees is the new flagship series produced by Lonely Planet.
Playful, sassy, street smart and unexpected, Lonely Planet Six Degrees connects to what makes each city special - the people that live in it. By emphasising the human dimension of travel Lonely Planet Six Degrees moves beyond sightseeing and offers the surest way of being whisked off your feet and fast-tracked to the heart of a city.
Presenter
Asha Gill hooks up with street art guru Andy Mac for a blistering neighbourhood lane party. Andy introduces Asha to gender-bending gangsta rapper Mandy Spiegel who shows her how to walk and talk like a man. Jewish punk rocker Bram Presser gives Asha a unique insight into the city's Orthodox heartland, and puts her in touch with Shanaka the absurdist, who runs a restaurant where diners pay whatever they feel.
Asha meets food critic Matt Preston who shows her the three things that really make Melbourne tick - good coffee, good food and Australian Rules Football - and Shanaka takes Asha to Footscray where she meets volunteer worker and social saint Akon Deng Shok. Asha helps Akon welcome Sudanese migrants to the city and celebrates Akon's new nationality
at a citizenship ceremony with a distinctly African twist.
