Description
The show in Lisbon on May 23, 2000 is the first in Pearl Jam's official bootleg series of the 2000 tour of Europe and North America. The setlist is great, packed full of the band's biggest hits. The Portugese crowd gives the show great atmosphere by doing soccer-style chants between songs. (The crowd sings the chorus to "Alive" in unison before and during the encore to make sure the band played the song.) However, the band was very rusty at this stage. Lead singer Eddie Vedder forgets major portions of the lyrics to "Wishlist" and "Immortality." There are also technical problems with Matt Cameron's drum kit in the middle of the show which causes a loss of momentum. Even the CD itself has glitches, as "Breakerfall" and "MFC" are reversed in order on the CD despite being listed in correct order. The resulting edit is perceptible to a careful listener. In all, it's a good first show with great energy and vibes, but not one of the best shows overall. The band had a long way to go at this point to get to it's top form. ~ Steven Jacobetz, AMG
