Description
Monkey is the new project for Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett… the gents who brought you Gorillaz. Damon does the music and Jamie does the graphics, The Gorillaz masterminds have now mutated into Monkey and bring you Journey to the West. The album was recorded in London and Beijing over the last twelve months and features European and Chinese musicians and singers. It draws upon music Damon composed (and visuals Jamie created) for the Chinese opera production of the same name. The storyline is based on ancient Chinese texts.
The stage version, "Monkey: Journey to the West" made its London debut at the Royal Opera House in July 2008.
