A Swedish singer-songwriter of Argentine background, Jose Gonzalez first garnered international attention when his gentle cover of the Knife's "Heartbeats" (from his debut, VENEER) was used in a Sony commercial in 2006. Gonzalez's second album, IN OUR NATURE, builds on the strengths of his first outing, keeping the focus on his plaintive vocals and intricate acoustic-guitar playing. Not as eccentric as Sufjan Stevens or as easily accessible as Damien Rice, Gonzalez specializes in thoughtful folk-pop that shines the brightest on "Down the Line," a vibrant tune designed to ward off misery, and a stirring take on Massive Attack's "Teardrop," a track likely to win the earnest performer even more indie and mainstream adoration.
