Frequently staged in opera houses during the run up to the Christmas season, this DVD comes in perfect time to help families celebrate this magical time of year! Sir Georg Solti is at the helm of the Wiener Philharmoniker with unforgettable performances by Brigitte Fassbaender as Hänsel and Edita Gruberova as Gretel. The supporting cast also includes such acclaimed performers as Hermann Prey, Helga Dernesch, Sena Jurinac and Norma Burrowes. Director August Everding succeeds in combining elements of theatre and film to create an enchanting fantasy world. This production, filmed in 1981, is now being released on DVD for the first time.
