Description
Probably the most misunderstood and misinterpreted album of all time, this is one of the most venomous albums ever recorded. At the time of writing the chief lyricist, Richey Edwards, was fighting alcoholism and manic depression, and in many ways this album chronicals his decline. Raw, aggressive and yet soberingly moving, this is a stand-out album with not one second wasted.
Just the titles alone indicate where the band were at at the time of recording; 'Of Walking Abortion', 'She Is Suffering' and 'Mausoleum' all indicative of the themes. Similarly songs like '4st 7lb' tell of Edward's fight with aneorexia and single 'Faster' the disillusionment with the system. It is disturbing to note that this would be Edward's swan-song. He disappeared, never to again be heard of, on the eve of the band's US tour to support this album. Maybe his job had been done, maybe his soul had been cleansed.
