Description
As a film, Himalaya is one of those unknown gems that leaves you stunned by the harsh realities of nomadic life. The magnificent but deadly landscape speaks for itself onscreen, but long after the film reaches its dramatic and emotional conclusion, it is the atmospheric score which lives on in the memory. Bruno Coulais utilises Mongolian chanting and throat singing to beautiful effect in conjunction with traditional Mongolian instruments (ranging from bells to acoustic guitar sounds). The score is tied together by a recurring theme with fully orchestrated string sections, giving the score a structure rarely found in many
original soundtracks.
