Davies has brought his own, highly distinctive vocal delivery and original musical style to both Bowie's "Heroes" and to a collection of songs he has long loved and admired. Davies has looked back and recorded distinctive cover versions of the songs which have influenced him and which have touched him.

Heroes is a meditation on the nature of music. It consciously takes songs written and performed by bands and individuals who have been at the centre of pop fashion (Sinatra in the 1940s and 1950s, The Velvet Underground in the 1960s, Roxy Music and David Bowie in the early 1970s, XTC and Talking Heads in the late 1970s-early 1980s, and The Cure, Simple Minds, Killing Joke and The Psychedelic Furs in the 1980s) and recrafts them so they are truly timeless.
