Description
SMOG, the creation of BILL CALLAHAN, is an important pioneer of the lo-fi movement in American independent music, having influenced acts as diverse as PAVEMENT and WILL OLDHAM's PALACE. His albums are characterised by their sparse, often discordant instrumentation and his self-absorbed and intimately revealing lyrics. Re-released by DRAG CITY after being unavailable for some time, this collection of vignettes is an important part of the path that led to such albums as 'Knock Knock' and 'Dongs Of Sevotion'. The boy-in-his-bedroom with a four-track aesthetic is very much the guiding principle. Callahan's scratchy, gritty guitars are the central element here where sonic distance reflects the artist's personal dislocation. Beautifully raw.
