Andy Millman (Ricky Gervais) is a struggling actor with ambition and a script, Darren Lanb (Stephen Merchant) is Andy's useless agent and Maggie (Ashley Jensen) is his air-headed best friend. After getting his comedy script accepted by the BCC, things are looking up for Andy. However, Andy's dreams of becoming a respected auteur are roundly demolished and Andy must claw back what little self-respect he can.
