Description
The Shaw Brothers Studio was first in Asian and is credited with starting the cinema industry in the East. What most people don’t realise however is that their output went far beyond the kung-fu and martial arts offerings the West is familiar with. Like Hollywood in the USA, the Shaw Brothers mined a wide variety of styles and genres for their films. This five-disc collection highlights their exploitative side – the horror, the erotic, and the monsters. From an Eastern re-working of King Kong, to a sadistic killer who scalps their victims, to the intrigue of a royal brothel, this collection shows a seamier side classic Asian cinema. This box set brings together a little-seen side of the pioneering Shaw Brothers Studio archive. Going beyond the martial arts and kung-fu films the studio is known for this set highlights the studio’s exploitative output – horror, erotic and monster films. Features the films: An Amorous Woman Of Tang Dynasty; The Golden Lotus; Human Lanterns; Intimate Confessions Of A Chinese Courtesan and The Mighty Peking Man.
