Description
Rated as “one of Australia’s most off-the wall MCs” and at the forefront of the hip hop movement in Australia, Urthboy delivers a refreshingly confident, forward thinking album as adventurous as it is respectful to the roots of hip hop.
Renowned for MCing in one of Australia’s most well known hip hop groups The Herd, Urthboy brings his style and rhythm into solo territory – collaborating with the likes of hip hop heavyweights Hermitude, TZU and The Herd to deliver a cohesive, yet truly diverse and exciting debut.
Urthboy manages to juggle the complexities of flow and narrative with great dexterity and character, giving the album an identity and flavour. Distant Sense of Random Menace hitchhikes from down to earth introspection and social commentary, to raucous politicking and light-hearted syllable twisting wordplay. The production is an adventurous ride through boom-bap, tight funk shakedowns, colourful sampling and instrumentation and self-assured musicality.
Over the last five years Urthboy has built a hard earned reputation as an engaging MC entertaining crowds with energy and sizable charisma, touring to every state on numerous occasions. Alongside many headline performances with The Herd, he’s done the support thing with Grandmaster flash, RJD2 & Kid Koala, The Herbaliser and Spearhead, amongst countless others.
Distant Sense of Random Menace is available on a slick digi-pack CD incorporating illustrations by Urthboy. For vinyl heads, an extended 12” vinyl is being released featuring an exclusive remix courtesy of Hermitude. The album was mastered by Dave Cooley (Madvillian, Madlib, Dangermouse - The Grey Album) in LA.
