Description
14 year-old Benny is the only son of a successful Austrian couple. Somewhat absorbed in their own lives and careers, he is often left to his own devices with his hi-tech gifts. Surrounded by TV and video images, electronic games and his beloved camcorder, Benny becomes increasingly removed from the 'real world', absorbed particularly with a tape of a pig being slaughtered. When his parents leave for a short holiday, Benny befriends a girl near his local video store and brings her home, taping their conversation before re-enacting his pet scene-and parents and son alike must come to terms with the enormity of this horrifying and senseless murder.
Director
Michael Haneke's acclaimed study of the effects of violent imagery is a harrowing tale of isolation and desensitization.
