Description
Extremely Limited DVD / DVD Edition!
Live is as real and as close to the bone as you can get - and that's how diesel loves it. On the back of the release of "Coathanger Antennae" he is also treating his audiences to the strength and diversity of his musical skill-set by introducing a string quartet to his ensemble!
And the results can be SEEN and HEARD in glorious 5.1 surround sound on diesel's new DVD release diesel + strings 'live at the vanguard'.
Recorded at Sydney's intimate Vanguard Theatre, diesel was joined by Lee Moloney and Ritchie Vez to make up this incredibly dynamic musical recipe and then the subtlety and smoothness of the string quartet (under arranger Marcus Holden) brings the whole show to the boil.
The opportunity to bring the band together with a string section was irresistible to diesel and it certainly proved to be that not only to him, but also his audiences over the three exclusive shows.
And now to relive that opportunity is more than seductive!
Performing selections from albums as far back as his debut with the Injectors, diesel shines on classic cuts such as 'Tip Of My Tongue', '15' Of Snow', and 'Cryin' Shame'. He also finds new life in staples 'Don't Need Love' and 'Come To Me' and delivers his finest moments on new tunes (from Coathanger Antennae) 'Crazytown', 'Positive' and 'Saviour' and with the help of Sydney songstress Carmen D. Smith, tears the house down in their rendition of the Pete Wells penned 'Meaning Of Life'.
After the success of his ARIA Award nominated acoustic album "Singled Out" (2004), diesel went back in the studio with his band - bassist Richie Vez and drummer Lee Moloney - to cut his most varied collection of songs in ten years.
The resulting album, and by extension this new DVD will only add to an already high level of critical acclaim for the singer, writer, multi-instrumentalist who has also now added the title of 'producer' to his c.v.
"Coathanger Antennae" has received glowing press reviews, with Neala Johnson (Melbourne Herald-Sun) declaring "diesel always had soul, (and) on Coathanger Antennae he finds new ways of showing it" and Scott Podmore (Sunday Herald-Sun) echoing that same sentiment in his 4 star review, saying "(Diesel is) renowned for fusing rock and soul and Coathanger Antennae is a rousing, fresh and entertaining reminder that he is still around and firing on all cylinders".
