Description
Porcupine Tree is not a traditional radio band, or a pretty-boy band, or commercial sellouts. This unique London-based quartet make unconventional, uncompromising music that qualifies them as Europe’s premiere art-rock cult band.
The new album DEADWING is their eighth studio album and it is an ambitious effort, which blends the bands trademark instrumentation and experimentalism with serious pop moments: a sonic experience, which can only be described as artistic as Radiohead, unique and progressive musically as Sigur Ros, and reminiscent of classic rock compositions written by Led Zepplin or The Who. Porcupine Tree’s intelligent and accessible sound will appeal to not only to metal enthusiasts and twenty-something dark wave fans but also fit in with many of today’s more adventurous alternative station playlists.
This magnificent album was self-produced by Wilson (as were all previous Porcupine Tree albums) and engineered by Paul Northfield. The album, which was recorded at various studios in the UK, highlights Porcupine Tree’s enigmatic tendencies: their mastery of various shades and tempos spanning the musical spectrum.
Highlights on the album include “Lazarus,” which evokes a mellow fluidity and “Halo,” which features legendary guitar work by Adrian Belew (King Crimson, David Bowie).
