Recorded in 1994 and subsequently shelved by Capitol, CRACK... finally sees the light of day six years later amid a POISON tour that's drawing commendable numbers. The album picks up where 1993's NATIVE TONGUE left off; it's a bluesy, rootsy, Black Crowes-like disc that follows on from the band's earlier flash 'n' glam period.
"Best Thing You Ever Had" and "Be the One" bring harmonica and piano to the forefront, while guitarist Blues Saraceno lives up to his name on "Mr. Smiley" and "That's the Way I Like It." The band goes all-out punk on "Doin' as I Seen on My TV," returning to vintage Poison on "Sexual Thing," and delivering in addition an inebriated version of Dr. Hook's "Cover of the Rolling Stone." Seven bonus tracks of B-sides, rarities and outtakes make this an exceedingly collectable item for Poison fans everywhere. Other highlights include the raucous "Face the Hangman" (from the OPEN UP AND SAY...AAH! sessions), and an acoustic "Talk Dirty to Me" that's surprisingly successful. A fine addition to the Poison catalog, it's better late than never for CRACK A SMILE...AND MORE!
