Description
The Chirping Crickets was the debut album from The Crickets, originally released in 1957. Whilst the group were a popular live draw, producer Norman Petty was still unsure of the musical prowess of some of the group, so the actual album features Buddy Holly on lead vocals and lead guitar, but members of The Picks provide the rest of the musical accompaniment!
The ruse, if that is what it was, worked spectacularly well, for later none other than The Beatles would use The Crickets as something of a blueprint for their own rise to success, fashioning their vocal style on the sound achieved by The Chirping Crickets.
