Description
Autechre (pronounced "Awe-tek-ur") is crafty. The brilliant Sheffield duo creates engaging, intelligent armchair-techno aimed at the head rather than the feet. Most of this disc chugs, pops and squeaks along wonderfully, as if R2D2 were enjoying some sort of unmentionable auto-robotic pleasure. One of the more mesmerizing tracks features a "metronomic barber-pole." The tempo is constantly slowing down and sub-dividing every two measures but-due to the carefully placed syncopations--it arrives back exactly where it was only seconds earlier. A great, great disc.
