Who would have believed that in the irony-ridden 21st century there would be a successful Broadway revival of the classic musical GYPSY? Going even further, what seer could predict that the soundtrack album to said revival would make it into the pop album charts amid the Timberlakes and Eminems? Well, that's exactly what happened in 2003. For those of a particular generation or two, GYPSY will always be inexorably linked to the larger-than-life voice and presence of Ethel Merman, but those who are coming to the show for the first time (or at least with an open mind) will find the charms of such evergreens as the lively "All I Need is the Girl" and the uber-optimistic "Everything's Coming Up Roses" difficult to resist in any context.
