Description
Marlene Dietrich stars as showgirl Lola Lola, the main attraction at The Blue Angel. When the somewhat dour Professor Emmanuel Rath (silent films star Emil Jannings) discovers his pupils mooning over some saucy postcards of the cabaret star, he is enraged by their depravity. Visiting the speakeasy to denounce its louche activities, Professor Rath too is seduced by Lola's charms, and in turn compromises his own morals.
Joseph von Sternberg's interpretation of Heinrich Mann's tale of one man's demise one of the most iconic films in the history of cinema. The film that made
Marlene Dietrich a star is an icon of Weimar cinema. Filmed simultaneously in German and English,
Directors Suite presents both the German version and the 15-minute shorter English version, both painstakingly restored by Germany's Wilhem-Friedrich-Murnau-Stiftung.
