Description
New 2CD Best of collection from
Van Morrison including two previously unreleased tracks.
Some of the songs here will be familiar even if not in these exact versions while others will have escaped all but the most ardent Van-ologist. What's certain is that it's a hand-picked selection with something for everyone whose life has been touched by Morrison's music.
The presence of guests on this album indicated a collaborational trend which would become more marked as the 90's progressed. Highlights include John Lee Hooker on a reworked 'Gloria' , 'Help Me', the Sonny Boy Williamson track that sees Junior Wells' harmonica duelling with Morrison, BB King on 'Early In The Morning' and 'Sitting on The Top of The World' with Carl Perkins
Non collaboratiove highlights include a jazzy version of the classic 'Moondance' and 'That's Life', Van's personalised take on the composition made famous by Frank Sinatra in the 1960s.
The album features 2 previously unreleased tracks - the aforementioned 'Cry For Home' and Tupeolo Honey with Bobby Bland.
What constitutes 'The Best Of
Van Morrison' will always be a subjective choice: the man himself ran through several listings and running orders before pronouncing himself satisfied. What is for sure is the quality of each track shines through.
