Description
If the German disco group Boney M. ever appealed to your more hedonistic listening and/or dancing sensibilities, this triple-disc box set is for you. These discs bring together the original German lip-synching group's best-known tracks form their second album on, with virtually everything here written -- and sung partially -- by producer Frank Farian. While the group contained four members, it was only Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett who actually sang, the rest of the vocals were provided by Farian's own unusually high falsetto and deep baritone. The singles here include "Ma Baker," the disco version of Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry," Farian's brilliant "A Woman Can Change a Man," and the ridiculous (and infectious) "Brown Girl in the Ring." The second disc picks up in the 1980s with the title track to Boonoonoonoos, as well as the novelty cover versions of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,""Dreadlock Holiday," and "The Carnival Is Over (Goodbye True Lover)." The final disc in this box is dedicated to 12" versions of the hits and contains extended mixes of "Happy Song," "I See a Boat on the River," and their completely hilarious (but oh so catchy) rip-off of the Human League on "Young Free, and Single."
