Description
At the Cafe Bohemia, Vol. 1 is first of the two volumes featuring the original version of the Jazz Messengers, the quintet co-led by drummer Art Blakey and pianist Horace Silver that also featured trumpeter Kenny Dorham, Hank Mobley on tenor, and bassist Doug Watkins. Caught live, the band stretches out on such numbers as "Soft Winds," "Minor's Holiday," "Alone Together" and Dorham's "Prince Albert." Highly enjoyable and still timeless music. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG
